SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT

🧵 What Sample Development Includes:

1. Tech Pack Review or Design Translation

Kingman starts by reviewing your tech pack, sketch, or reference garment to understand the style, construction details, and materials.

2. Pattern Drafting

A custom pattern is created based on your design. This serves as the foundation for fit, shape, and style.

3. Fabric & Trim Selection

They source or confirm fabrics, trims, and accessories—either from your inputs or through Kingman’s own sourcing network.

4. Sample Construction

The first prototype, or development sample, is made in-house using the approved materials and specs.

5. Fit & Quality Review

Once the sample is ready, it’s sent for your review. You can check:

  • Fit and proportions

  • Stitching and finish quality

  • Branding details (e.g., labels, embroidery, prints)

6. Revisions & Final Approval

Based on your feedback, adjustments are made to patterns or construction until the sample meets your standards—leading to a production-ready sample (also known as a pre-production sample or PPS).

âś… Why Sample Development Matters:

  • Reduces costly mistakes in bulk production

  • Ensures proper fit, functionality, and aesthetic

  • Builds trust between the brand and manufacturer

  • Allows for testing of new designs, fabrics, or finishes
